Getting Started Guide – Skype for Business.

Skype is dead simple to set up and completely free. You can do it all yourself. Skype works with Windows, Mac and Linux. Whatever system you are using, we’ve got you covered.

Follow the steps below and you will be up and running in minutes.

Download Skype (business version) – if you are an IT administrator you can use this version to remotely install Skype on other computers in your network. If not – then just install it on your own computer and get your colleagues to do the same.

Use the contact search to find colleagues and partners who are already using Skype and add them to your contacts.

Sign up for the Business Control Panel – this is a free tool which will help you purchase and distribute Skype Credit and online numbers. Then use the Control Panel to invite the rest of your company to join Skype.

Purchase some credit – this can be used to make calls to phones and cells.
Think about getting an online number – so customers and clients can call you from phones and cells.

Equipment – most users like to use a headset and make calls directly from their computer. But you can also consider deskphones or cordless phones. If you want to make video calls you will need a webcam.

Skype can also work with your existing PBX phone system, or one of our software partner solutions available in the Extras Gallery.

Once you’re up and running, try some of these common business features:

  • Call a phone or cell phone.
  • Make a conference call.
  • Set up a group chat.
  • Try video calling.
  • Transfer a file.

Other things you can do with Skype:

  • Use Skype on your cell phone.
  • Install Skype toolbars so you can make calls from Outlook, Office or your web browser (e.g. call a number directly from a web page).
  • Send a fax.
  • Check out some of our other extras that let you record calls, share your desktop, or set up a call center.

It’s free, easy and quick to get on Skype.
